Coir fiber is the natural fiber extracted from a coconut husk. Coir fiber has been used to make rope that has been used for centuries. It consists of two types: brown fibers and white fibers. The brown fibers come from mature coconuts and the white fibers come from immature, green coconuts after soaking up to ten months. Coir fiber is one of the most lignin-rich natural fibers (Gu, 2009).
